Jenny (JyungIn) Lee, former seminarian at Covenant Church, joined Covenant Church on transfer of membership and was received in worship on Sunday, July 29.
Just a few days later, on Thursday, August 2, she was elected as the national Moderator of Presbyterian Women at the Churchwide Gathering in Louisville, Kentucky. Jenny will lead the national Churchwide Coordination Team of 35 members and 14 staff in carrying out the ministry of Presbyterian Women. Its mission statement is: Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study; to support the mission of the church worldwide; to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Prebyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom.
Meet the new churchwide moderator and vice moderators, receiving the gavel from the outgoing team. Joy Durrant, new vice moderator for justice and peace, second from left; Jenny Lee, new moderator, third from left; and Jo Ann Burrell, new vice moderator for mission relationships, far right, were just elected at the churchwide business meeting! Now that the business is concluded, tours, worship, exhibits and other fun begin, all part of the Churchwide Gathering in Louisville, Kentucky! Outgoing vice moderators Wanda Beauman, far left, and Judy Persons, second from right, along with outgoing moderator Carol Winkler, third from right, were thanked for their service with a standing ovation.
